Feel like a Girl Boss

Photo via Pinterest

Now that we are a couple months into the New Year, we should have our shit together. Seems easy, right? Maybe not so much. The New Year can mean a lot of changes, goals, inspirations and new perspectives and sometimes it can get the best of us.

I’ve learned that one way to reboot the new year is to reinvent your style. Looking good and feeling good when you’re getting ready to start the day can make all the difference. If you have no where to go, just taking the time to look your best can make you feel inspired and motivated.

Here are some looks to make you feel and think like a #girlboss.

While statement necklaces are still in, lately i’ve been into the saying that “less is more.” I mean this in the sense that while I have plenty of statement necklaces still, I’ve been reverting to my simpler, dainty jewelry that I can wear daily. It’s a great way to stick to your professional look during the week but also a great accent piece for a night out in town with a low-cut blouse. You can’t go wrong!

If you don’t have a good piece of jewelry that you can wear with anything, it’s time to invest in one! Vrai & Oro has just the necklaces for you.

The next accessory that I’d like to show you is one of my favorite iPhone cases. I don’t know why, but I’ve grown to love all things marble. Of course not real marble when it comes to accessories (that was a joke).

I’ve had my marble iPhone case for a few months now and I’m obsessed with it. It’s a clean and classy look to dress up your phone and you can get your own without breaking the bank. Check it out here.  There’s one for your computer too on Etsy.

If you’re a world traveler like me, a watch like this is perfect for when you have the itch to travel the world, but can’t at the moment.

Just take a look at your wrist and the world is right there 😉

Get it here.

How about your own little black wristlet? This is perfect for every day errands or a night in the city to fit your necessities (because let’s face it, we have a lot).

Just like a LBD, this will match with everything and help with that sophistication boost when you’re out and about.

Get it at Henri Bendel.

Sometimes I think I’ll never grow up because I will *never* get sick of headbands.

In fact, I will never get sick of hair accessories. If you’re like me then you’re in luck.

Come on ladies–spring is here and it’s time to wash your hair and get those beach waves out.

I made a list of my favorite hair accessories so you will be spring ready from head to toe (literally).

Gold jewelry tattoos have become the one of the latest fashion trends.

They are like the tattoos we would get at carnivals when we were kids–the kind that you dab some water on your skin and wa-la! These are just higher quality. They last for a week or two if you take care of them but you can also rub them off with some soap and water.

They are unique, fun and super cool.

If you want to stand out and make a statement, this will definitely do the trick!

Here are some fun pieces that I think would be fun to try this fall:

What’s On Your Agenda?

Get organized this year with these fun school supplies.

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

Even though people returned to school a few weeks ago, it’s never too late to buy fun school supplies.

How boring are No. #2 pencils, black agendas and green spiral notebooks? The answer is very boring. As if having an 8AM or taking a math class was bad enough, boring supplies make it worse. It’s kind of like going to the gym–you buy fun workout clothes and you’re more likely to want to go to the gym (I think?).

Check out some fun accessories that will go beyond your doodling days.

Back to School

Since Pre-K, it was always exciting to pick out your new backpack for the school year (or maybe that’s just me). I sure had my fair share of princesses, hello kitty, glittery backpacks. Once you hit middle school/junior high, it’s not cool to wear backpacks anymore. Instead, you buy a purse and call it a backpack–not to mention you stuff as much as you can in it to make a point to your parents.

When you’re in high school, you give up the whole purse-as-a-backpack ordeal since your parents were against it because you realize that backpacks are everything. College is another level. Everyone has their own preference on what they want to put their stuff in for school (or not). For the sake of my neck and shoulders, I spent my college years walking around campus (happily) with a backpack. There definitely are backpacks that are manly and bulky, but not all are like that.

In fact, there are actually a lot of cute and useful ones.

Either way, it can make an outfit. Here are different types of collar necklaces and when to wear them:

I say this with extreme confidence that the majority of people have iPhones. If you don’t, you’re not human. Just kidding. There are the other kinds of phones, but let’s be real, iPhones are pretty fricking cool. They do have some downfalls–the price, battery life and the fact that you pretty much have to buy everything new with the newest phones.

When you first get your beloved iPhone, you swear that this time you’re going to get the heaviest-duty case so that it won’t fall and shatter the screen. Let’s be real though, a thin, colorful phone cover is much more appealing (and lighter) than a box for a phone.

While this post is not about the safety of your phone (I learned the hard way that I had to buy a screen protector), it is about accessorizing your phone.

The infinity symbol has become extremely popular throughout the past couple years. It’s a simple symbol that means so much. They are on clothes, accessories, home decor patterns and make good tattoos. You don’t have to have a boyfriend to have an infinity necklace, ring or earrings (it’s overrated). There is a lot of cute jewelry and accessories with the infinity symbol.

So Clutch

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 12.12.26 PM

Every girl could use a good clutch. It’s the perfect accessory to have; smaller than a purse yet bigger than a wallet. It’s light, small and it can say a lot about your personality. If you’re planning a long night out and not sure of where the night will take you, you can pack the essentials in your bag without it becoming too much. This is what one may find in a clutch for a night out:

Apartment keys (this is important)

ID and Debit cards (maybe some cash but who really has cash on them these days?)

Extra pair of contacts (because you never want to be blind on a night out in case of an unexpected occurrence) and maybe some eye drops

Tester Perfumes

iPhone (or else) and charger

Band aids (you’ll thank yourself later because lets face it, those heels are NOT as comfortable as you think)

Maybe it’s just me and my OCD but I like to always have a little extra packed with me on a night out. You’ll be the girl that all the others are envying and annoyed with your over-preparedness. The beautiful thing about all this…all those things really don’t take up that much room in a bag! Consider it travel size.

If you’re asking yourself what type of clutch you would want, here are some different styles and sizes so now you can go out without carrying a massive tote.

All hail Tory Burch. I know, it’s not the cheapest brand around but it’s certainly not the most expensive. The quality of her products are amazing, not to mention they are classy and timeless. This clutch screams fu and flirty. It may be too loud if you’re already wearing a printed blouse, pants or dress. It would compliment your outfit however if you’re wearing a solid color dress or skinny jeans and a bright top. This is also a great clutch that you would want to bring on vacation. That is if you are going somewhere tropical. Find it on Etsy. There are more designs too!

This clutch is also flirty but in a completely different way. This is more of the edgy, hard look if that’s what you’re trying to go for. Find it on Miss Selfridge, where you can also find different color schemes of the same style.

This clutch is more of a hipster, bohemian type. It’s very authentic and looks European. Like one of the previous clutches, this can clash with an outfit if you’re already wearing busy prints. Get it at ASOS for a very affordable price.

With a few options, hopefully there is a clutch for different girls. The most important thing however, is that you can always have more clutches 🙂

Once a Flower Girl, Always a Flower Girl

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with all things flowers. Of course I have my limits, but I always want flowers around. They can be in a vase, in a cup, on my clothes or in my hair. I think they are so dainty and beautiful. The best part is that there are so many kinds and colors. Who wouldn’t love that? Now with summer here, I can finally start using and wearing them more often.
In light of the summer season, here are timeless accessories that you can snag with flowers on them.
Free People
Free People is notorious for all things floral. If you want a relaxed but chic look get one of these hair pieces.
Free People
If you want something that will stand out more, Free People’s hair clips are just the thing. You can get multiple colors and it’s great because you can place them where ever you want in your hair.
Urban Outfitters
If you’re looking to make a statement with an outfit, Urban Outfitters has just the thing. Whether you’re going to Coachella or to a tea party (hey, it can happen) this flower headband is perfect.
In light of the picture above, I went out on a hunt outside and made my own head piece. It’s to my liking and it’s for FREE.
Urban Outfitters
If you love pink, which who doesn’t, then you’ll love this head band. It’s great because you can wear it with a maxi dress (you might look like a hippie), but it is also extremely feminine. It ties in the back so you can make it as tight or loose as you want. Get the look at Urban Outfitters.
Inspired by the pink florals, I decided to make my own flower crown. It was very fitting since I was at the Lilac Festival. Again, it’s free.
Pearls and flowers go together like peanut butter and jelly.Well, maybe not exactly but close enough. A necklace like this is perfect for a Sunday brunch or even a lunch with your best gals.
Small earrings like these can go hand-in-hand with a simple dress. They aren’t too loud yet they are elegant. The good news is that these are from Forever21; a perfect example that shows you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have cute stuff.

RedWhite & Fabulous

As you know, Fourth of July is creeping up on us this Friday. Between the US playing the World Cup yesterday  (RIP) and the fourth this weekend, everyone seems to be gleaming with American pride. If you’re one to celebrate big, there are a lot of fun ways you can prepare for it.
Of course, everyone will be wearing red, white and blue from head to toe for the rest of the week (and possible beyond). You can be one of those people too but you can mix it up with a few accessories that can make you festive and glamorous.
My blog post photo above is a picture a took of my phone case. I bought it from FreePeople about a year ago and I LOVE it. I’m one of those people that has multiple phone covers but I have to say…this one is by far my favorite.
Here are some other accessory must-haves for the holidays.
If you love America AND headbands then this is pretty much everything. Buy it now on Etsy (They have different styles too).
American Apparel
If you’re more of a hat person, American Apparel has just the thing for you!
American Apparel
Another headband, but this time a bow! American Apparel has this rockin’ piece in navy blue stripes (as shown in the photo) or red stripes. Make your pick.
If you have a solid-color top you’re planning on wearing and aren’t sure what will go with it, this necklace is just the thing! Not only is it festive but it’s fabulous. Get the look at Francescas.
Show your pride with some cool shades from Francescas.
If you have a scarf obsession, this is a great excuse to go out and buy another one. Go to Etsy to get this cute (and cheap) scarf!

Summer Shade

 Sunglasses don’t get enough recognition.
You can tell a lot about a person by the sunglasses they wear. I know it seems a bit much, but it’s true. Living in the city, I like to have a classic pair of black sunglasses.
There is a pair of sunglasses for every occasion. If you have a pair of five dollar sunglasses from a kiosk or a stand from the street, it’s time to trade those in for a fabulous pair.
If you’re not sure which sunglasses to shop for next, hopefully this post will give you a better idea.
1. The “Fun” Look
If you haven’t realized already, I am a huge advocate of floral print in the summer. I know flowers are usually associated with spring, but who says you can’t wear it in the summer? If you love this pair, get the look from Vogue.

This DIY is very simple. If you do have a cheap pair of sunglasses and don’t feel like spending a lot of money of a new pair, this is the perfect recreation.

What you’ll need:
1. A pair of plain sunglasses
2. Artificial flowers (can be found at Michael’s)
3. A hot glue gun or super glue
4. Diamonds (optional)
What you’ll do:
1. Take the pair of sunglasses and individually glue the flowers on.
2. You can glue flowers halfway, or do the whole lens
3. If you want some sparkle, add some diamonds
2. The “Flirty” Look
Everyone loves hearts.
They may look juvenile but they are adorable. If you’re going for a playful and flirty look, they are the way to go. Shop the look for only 10.99.
If you prefer pink, check out MMC for the same price.
3. The “Classic” Look
If you want to re-live the Audrey Hepburn days then it’s inevitable that you get a black pair of sunglasses.
They match with everything, they are classy and elegant. If you love the vintage look check out Kitty Shades.
If you’re more into the round frame look, go to Le Specs for a classic pair.
4. The “Hipster” Look
Why not release your inner hipster?
With a high-wasted skirt or shorts, a crop top and these sunglasses…you’re ready to go.
Shop the look at Wet Seal for various looks.
5. The “Goddess” Look
Tiffany & Co.
Like gold jewelry, gold sunglasses really dress up a bland outfit. Even if you’re wearing them for a certain amount of time (i.e. when you’re outside), your outfit will look complete.
Go out of your comfort zone with a bold look. Gold, sparkly sunglasses will do just that. Check out Miu Miu‘s new shades.

Put a Ring On It

Not THAT kind of ring, though it is another reference to Beyoncé (I promise, last one).
I am a huge advocate of rings.
You can keep it simple, stack them and wear them on your knuckles.
The special ring can turn your accessory game onto a whole new level.
Summer time is the perfect time to explore your style and get some unique jewelry pieces.
1. The Brass Knuckle
Though it’s not an “every day ring,” this type of ring will give your outfit an edgy look. This ring is more for a ‘Coachella’ or ‘Artsy Festival’ occasion.

Find the look on Etsy.
2. The Gold Carvings
This ring should definitely have you feeling like a goddess. The carefully carved gold leaves give the ring a delicate touch. This would go great for a daytime look as well as a night time look.
Find it on Etsy and you can get it in silver too!
3. The Wire
If you’re not a big fan of rings, this might be a good way to try them. Wire rings are very thin and light. They are not bulky like other rings. Plus, you can get cute sayings like ‘Love.’
Find the look on Etsy. There are more sayings also if you don’t like love. (No judgement here).
4. The Knot
Like the wire rings, the classic “knot” ring has become extremely popular. They match with everything.
5. The Stack
If you don’t mind the bulkier jewelry, stacking rings are perfect! Each ring is thin, but you can stack them in any order you please. You also don’t have to wear them all at the same time so you can always switch it up.
6. The Knuckle
Knuckle rings are just one of those things that you have to try out for yourself. When I heard of the new fad going around, I couldn’t help but think of the inconvenience that came along with it.
Wouldn’t they fall off easy?
What if they get stuck to everything?
What’s the point of them really?
I admit, I was fast to judge. I bought my first “knuckle ring” in Urban Outfitters and I have to admit, they aren’t bad. They are cute, actually. If you love rings so much and need to wear more, knuckle rings are the ring for you!

Making a Statement

Jewelry can be a little overwhelming sometimes.
If you want to wear a bold necklace do you wear earrings too? Or what about bracelets? Don’t event get me started about rings too. There are so many choices and you only want to look your best without drowning your outfit with chunky accessories.
Sometimes though, there is that perfect statement piece that makes the outfit. It can take just one piece and you’re all set. If you’re still unsure about what can make and break an outfit, here are some tips that might help with your dilemma.
1. Bright colors
This is great if you have a plain, dark-colored outfit and you don’t want to look dull. Spunk it up with a fun bright necklace that will make your outfit ‘pop.’
Since it’s the summer, try using mints and corals to your outfit. It will make your outfit fun without being too out there (not to mention brighter colors make you look tanner).
You’ll be surprised to see what a bright statement piece can do to an outfit!
 2. Go Gold
Gold is a color that will never get old. Gold is also a color that can become gaudy if you wear too much of it. This is where a simple statement piece comes in. When you think of statement piece, you might think of something over the top or something bold. Well, that doesn’t always have to be the case.
A statement piece can also mean a piece of jewelry that is unique and different–something that will catch people’s eyes when they look at your outfit.
Gold can make a simple day-to-day outfit become chic.
3. Florals
It doesn’t have to be spring to wear floral patters. This is great if you’re wearing light colors and you need an accessory to jazz it up a little. Wearing  a pastel outfit and a pastel flower piece however may leave you looking like an easter egg. As mentioned before, it’s good to go with brighter colored pieces when you outfit it dark. White florals can go with anything.
4. Love Lace
If you’re trying to be extra ‘girly girl’ for the day, lace accessories are the perfect way to go.
Lace accents can make an outfit look delicate and elegant. It gives you that “princess” feel and let’s face it, girls don’t complain about wanting to look like a princess.
If you have lots of lace that you don’t know what to do with, try making your own statement piece. (It’s easier than it sounds!)
